The Dockrell 27 is an intriguing small cruiser. She owes much of her design heritage to the Hurley 27, with a very similar deck and cabin arrangement. However, the Hurley underwater section design was modified to reduce draught. This example is cutter rigged, with the staysail mounted on a self-tacking Hoyt-type boom. In general, she seems to be in pretty good condition. The instrumentation could use some updating, but the engine is smart and shiny small Yanmar diesel. Deck fittings are solid. All in all, she is an inspiring vessel with a good reputation and a lot of character.
