Broker's Comments

Sometimes than trying to concoct a convincing counter-argument, it’s sometimes simply easier just to accept the advantages of cruising catamarans over their mono-hull equivalents. The virtues stare you in the face, from the moment you step on board (and the boat doesn’t move underfoot). Even on a boat with a modest 8m LOA: roam around the cockpit, gigantic by mono-hull standards; wander around the expansive (and flat) fore-deck, admiring the deep lockers then venture below into an interior packed with generous accommodation. Just inside the wide companionway is a good-sized saloon that turns into an airy double berth, with a further double in a separate fore-cabin accessed from the starboard hull. The port hull contains a further berth, the nav station and heads, and the starboard the galley. On deck, all the sail controls lead back to the helm. Manoeuvrability under power is enhanced by the rudders being linked to the steerable 9.9 outboard. The engine tilts up out of the water to reduce drag when under sail. And sail she does, having been once clocked at 14 knots under cruising chute and main. This Catalac is a particularly fine specimen of her class. She has recently been entirely re-decked. Her deck furniture is a tribute to the stainless-steel metalworker’s art: take a look at the cleats, stanchions and (for want of a better description) pulpit. More of a sculpted balcony than a pulpit, in fact. A wide spray-hood replaces the doghouse more usually found on Catalacs (improving her looks no end), and the mainsheet has been moved from the transom (where it was prone to garrotte unsuspecting passers-by) to a custom-built sturdy stainless frame mounted out of the way above the spray hood and above head-height. If the inherent advantages of twin hulls appeal to you, this is a splendid example of the type, available at a realistic price.
