Broker's Comments
Berthon Boat Company have been building yachts and boats since 1877 and since 1918 on the site of the former Lymington Shipyard, reputedly there since Roman times. A yard famous for America's Cup yachts (Lulworth was built here), dinghies, tugs, pilot boats amongst others, Berthon is a name always associated with quality and their historic build register reads like a 'who's who'!
And in 1966 they built this particular beauty. Reviewed soon after her launch and described as a boat with an 'indefinable air about her of one intended to go to sea', this is a rare example of a yacht which has always been cared for, from design and build right to present day ownership.
Her hull shape with its well flared bow gives her naturally good sea-keeping abilities and handling has been enhanced with a set of Naiad stabilisers for open water and a bow thruster to help in harbour. A remote controlled windlass and powered winches make short handed cruising a pleasure and so those lucky enough to be invited aboard as guests can truly relax on the aft deck and enjoy the experience.
Down below she feels luxurious yet to me unpretentious, something rarely achieved by modern yacht designers. Equally comfortable and practical both at sea and in port, she is very well equipped and has ample space storage for extended cruising or alternatively she would make a fine liveaboard.
I could go on all day! In summary this is a really stunning example of a classic motor yacht modernised thoughtfully to ensure she can be easily enjoyed whilst still retaining her class and her character.
