Most people don’t sell a boat very often so don’t know the ropes. Most people aren’t dispassionate enough to price their boat to sell. Most people don’t live close to their mooring so showing people around the boat can be difficult. Most people don’t have marketing skills and an easily found, well thought out website. A successful sale in quite a short time. The whole web based system allows the vendor to if there is any interest. The best bit is at the end, clever software allows exchange of paperwork money and signatures without having to wait for the post. All done and dusted. Hooray.

I cannot recommend Sam, from Boatshed in Gosport (Portsmouth) enough as a sales broker. She was suggested to me by someone who has helped me out with running repairs on my catamaran for years. He told me she was “straight talking”, and a “no nonsense” person whom you could trust. He was absolutely right. Her presale advice was invaluable; she immediately identified what needed to be repaired/renewed before the boat was made available for viewing, and her insight into what buyers look at was invaluable. She saved me spending on useless items, whilst minor details I considered irrelevant were flagged up as worthy of attention. My catamaran is clearly intended for the Carribean or Mediterranean market, not an easy sale in Gosport. Nevertheless, I had two serious offers within 4 weeks of putting her on the market, and one of these lead to a successful sale a couple of weeks later. A significant achievement. If you are thinking of selling your boat in or near Gosport, talk to Sam from Boatshed first. You will not regret it.

In July this year my husband & I, with much sadness, took the decision to sell our much treasured sailing boat. We were initially going to put her on the market ourselves because we didn’t want to pay brokers fees but were unsure of current prices and the legal side of things. A friend recommend that we contact Sam at Boatshed. We never looked back, from the moment Sam walked on board I knew we had done the right thing. She was able to advise us on the current market prices & was very sensitive to the fact that we were very sad at having to sell our boat. Sam made a brilliant video and took lots of pictures, the good and the bad. She found us a buyer in about 2 weeks and arranged all the viewings, survey & test sail at times convenient to us & the prospective buyer. We also felt very protected as there was never any contact between us & the buyer without it going through Sam, also the brokers fees were not as much as we expected. Samantha Cassell of Boatshed in Gosport has now sold two Vancouver yachts for me in two years.
